1 – 25 April 2009
Bloomberg SPACE, Finsbury Square, London EC2

Opening Private View: Tuesday 31 March 2009, 6.30 - 8.30pm
Following the successful launch of COMMA last week, Bloomberg SPACE announces the next commissions in this fast paced programme of exhibitions. Every month, the gallery gives two artists a space each to make new work. From 1-25 April, Bloomberg SPACE presents Jose Davila (COMMA 03) and Jaime Gili (COMMA 04).
COMMA 03 – Mexican artist Jose Davila (b.1974) is making a dramatic sculptural presence in the front gallery, which appears to be floating like a mirage. Using simple building materials and neon light, he is playing with the idea of a 3D abstraction of a kaleidoscopic effect, suspending this imposing structure from the ceiling. Davila, who initially studied architecture in Guadalajara, Mexico, is part of the recent celebration of New Mexican art.
COMMA 04 – Jaime Gili (b.Venezuela 1972) is animating the rear gallery and atrium with a dazzling prismatic display, reminiscent of both a Modern structure and a medieval cathedral. Using coloured vinyl on the interior windows ascending seven floors, he is transforming the space with trademark geometric reflections. Gili combines references to Latin American Modernism with a Venezuelan tradition of mass-reproduced print media, particularly posters, placed within architectural spaces. Jaime Gili is based in London and is represented by Riflemaker.
