DaveBarkerSince the earliest days of Harbour House, there has been a thriving Life Drawing studio at the Kingsbridge arts and yoga centre. Members of the group are now staging an exhibition of drawings and paintings completed in the light top floor studio overlooking the Quay. The show, titled simply Life, opens on Tuesday 10 March in the gallery at Harbour House. Under the guidance of Dick Bruff, who recently held a major retrospective exhibition charting a lifetime of painting, the life drawing studio has flourished and remains a popular fixture in the busy Harbour House schedule. In recent years Harbour House has, in addition, offered tutored life drawing courses and occasional intensive weekend painting workshops. Some artists join the Friday studio for a short spell or occasional burst of untutored life study, while others make a regular commitment to further their drawing practice and enjoy the support and encouragement of this friendly group. Susan Stallard, who represents the group, explains, "We are a varied group of artists: mostly amateur, and many gifted. All of us are passionate about the exploration of the human figure in pencil, charcoal or paint. We only have two two-hour sessions in which to capture the essence of our model, which finely tunes our observational skills and without a doubt enhances other areas of our work." Life, the exhibition of drawings and paintings from the Harbour House Friday Life Drawing Group, opens at Harbour House in Kingsbridge on Tuesday 10 March. Opening times are 10 am until 5 pm daily until the close of the show on Sunday 22 March. Admission is free.
