Things Done Badly Recent Works by Jeremy Scrine Harbertonford artist Jeremy Scrine brings his new collection of drawings and paintings to Harbour House. His exhibition, titled Things Done Badly, opens at the Kingsbridge gallery on Tuesday 17 February. Harbour House is also one of the venues for Jeremy's teaching, and he is well known in Totnes and Falmouth for his approach to contemporary drawing and painting. The title for his show is a reference to the painter William Scott, who spoke of 'the beauty of things done badly', and Jeremy Scrine too believes that art should be a process of creative exploration and investigation, rather than the application of techniques to a predetermined outcome. He explains, "For me, drawing and painting is a process of creative research, an investigation of qualities. The physical act of mark making is a tactile engagement with experience. I work from sketchbook studies and drawings. The paintings are reworked and layered, seeking to create a visual equivalent, rather than a representation. I am not making pictures, but paintings in which the image is the result of the painting process." Jeremy's new body of work has emerged from a period of experimentation and consolidation in the studio, exploring figure, still life, landscape and abstraction.
