Revelations
Kingsbridge Community College takes over the gallery at Harbour House, for its fourth annual exhibition of art and photography by VI Form students. This stunning exhibition, titled Revelations, shows how creative and innovative these young artists can be, and opens on Tuesday 3 March.
Each year a new group of students, aged between 16 and 18, puts on a vibrant display of drawing, painting, photography and mixed media scultpure. Working to a strict AS-level syllabus, the discipline for the young artists is rigorous, but the opportunity to express their creativity is unparalleled.
Professional photographer Eliot Siegel has been drafted in to work with the students once again, sharing his experience and expertise in the world of portrait and fashion photography. In an analysis of the theme Looking Through, the students turned an art room into a temporary photography studio, and manipulated lighting, screens and backdrops to produce a series of relaxed and creative portraits.
Other themes explored by the photography students include People, and the students have made use of both film and digital photographic techniques.
The photography students also visited London galleries for their studies, including The National Portrait Gallery, and The Photographers Gallery, the largest public gallery in London dedicated to photography, and took photographs in dramatic locations such as Covent Garden and the Embankment.
The Art Department continues to make use of the dynamic sculptor Meier Williams, who has guided the students through a two-day workshop, Human Form in the Natural World. This represents the culmination of a period of thorough research, design and planning, including a trip to the British Museum in London. The influence of such artists as Giacometti, Henry Moore, Anthony Gormley and Sophie Ryder is evident in the developing sculptures, which suggest organic, natural forms.
Other projects include Concealed and Revealed in the Built Environment, a theme explored through drawing and design, and developed into painting, printmaking, mixed media and animation.
Revelations showcases the work of VI Form Art and Photography students at Kingsbridge Community College. The exhibition opens from Tuesday 3 until Saturday 7 March. Opening times are 10 am - 4. 30 pm Tuesday - Friday, and 10 am - 3 pm on Saturday. Admission is free.
